"One of the most impressive snakes in my neighbourhood is the equatorial spitting cobra. She likes to sunbathe on the open paths in the early afternoon when most people have disappeared back to the cool of their houses.

She is not aggressive if you leave her alone. And she'll politely move out of your way if you give her time to do so. But, if you don't... if you're noisy or rude or frightening, watch out.

She can spit venom six feet in any direction without blinking. If it gets in your eyes, you'll never see another cobra again."
